The Taxi Industry is Deeply Concerned as Threats in Bronkhorstspruit Turn Deadly

The Taxi Industry in Bronkhorstspruit is alarmed and deeply saddened by the killing of a taxi driver outside Bronkhorstspruit Hospital on Friday, a tragedy that comes just days after the Greater Bronkhorstspruit Taxi Association (GBTA) publicly warned that lives were in danger.

This loss confirms our worst fears.

We are now witnessing the deadly consequences of government’s continued inaction against a known parolee who has been terrorising operators, extorting money, and threatening violence with impunity.

Despite repeated pleas for intervention, authorities have failed to protect the very people who keep our communities moving.

We call for immediate and decisive action from the South African Police Service and the Departments of Transport, Community Safety, and Correctional Services.

The parolee responsible for this reign of terror must be apprehended without delay, and a full investigation launched into how such a person continues to operate unchecked.

The taxi industry cannot continue to be left on its own to face lawlessness.

Our drivers deserve safety, justice, and respect.

The affected taxi association warned that lives were at risk, now a life has been lost.

Government silence on this matter is concerning.
