A 21-year-old Ekangala man in Tshwane was arrested after he handed himself over to the police on Monday following the murder of his 59-year-old father.

It is reported that the suspect came to Ekangala Police Station to report that he killed his father with knife and police took him to the scene of crime in Section B of Ekangala where they found the deceased in the house, with some of his body parts cut-off and place in the cups.

A sharp object that is suspected to have been used for the murder was found next to the deceased.

Sources close to the family said the accused told police he was hearing voices in his head telling him to kill his father.

The sources say the accused is a former prison warder and recently had started behaving strangely.

They say he was a loner who avoided contact with other people and watched a lot of horror movies.

On the day of the murder, he was seen prancing about in the streets while not responding to anyone who greeted him.

The accused has been charged with murder and appeared before Ekangala Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The matter was remanded to 17 October to get a medical opinion on the accused’s criminal capacity to stand trial.
