SANTACO Gauteng is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of the Chairman of the Alexandra Taxi Association, Mr. Vusi Mayaba, who was recently killed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and the entire Alexandra taxi community during this difficult time.

Mr. Mayaba’s loss is profoundly felt across the industry.

He was a respected leader whose dedication, guidance, and commitment to the taxi sector left a meaningful impact on the Alexandra Taxi Association and the broader industry.

His legacy of service and leadership will be remembered with great respect.

Speaking on behalf of the provincial leadership, SANTACO Gauteng Chairperson, Mr. Midday Mali, expressed deep concern over the increasing number of gun-related incidents affecting the industry in 2025.

“We are deeply troubled by the continued loss of life within our industry.

The frequency of these incidents is alarming, and we urge law enforcement agencies to treat these cases with the utmost seriousness.

Stronger, more proactive interventions are needed to prevent further tragedy, protect our members, and ensure stability within the taxi industry.”

The memorial service for Mr. Vusi Mayaba was held today, 10 December 2025, from 10h00 at:10 Eastern Service Road, East Gate, Sandton.

SANTACO Gauteng remains committed to working with law enforcement,government, and community stakeholders to promote peace, safety, and accountability across the sector.
