Labour brokering company Rihati has now dismissed some of its meter readers for having dared to meet Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya to demand insourcing into the City of Tshwane workforce.

According to one of the dismissed meter readers, their dismissal is part of a dismissal campaign that will result in more workers being fired for having abandoned their work stations to go to City of Tshwane headquarters(Tshwane House) three weeks ago where they wanted feedback from Mayor Moya regarding their long-standing plea to be removed from the exploitation they suffer at the hands of Rihate Labour brokers so that they can be paid better salaries as fulltime City of Tshwane employees.

A letter of dismissal that is in possession of Tshwane Talks indicates that Labour brokers company Rihati has viewed the meter readers’ action as gross misconduct, unauthorised absence from work, dereliction of duty and compromising client contract.

Their disciplinary hearing started on 24 June and ended on 9 July this year.

The dismissed workers still insist that their struggle to be insourced into the City of Tshwane will continue and that Labour brokers Rihati uses tactics like threats and suspensions without pay to silence the meter readers’ aspirations to be enlisted directly into the payroll of the City of Tshwane instead of being paid indecent salaries via Rihati.

The meter readers get paid as little as R2,50 cents for every meter that they read.

They explained that even now they are still waiting for a response from Mayor Moya regarding the insourcing issue and that they are disappointed that the Mayor hasn’t come to their rescue in this regard.

The dismissed workers opine that they have been singled out for dismissal because they have been very vocal in their demands for insourcing.
