Four legends from the sporting and entertainment sector were honoured by Rama City Community on Saturday evening.

The community of Rama city also launched 2024 Rama City photo magazine volume 5.

The gala dinner was attended by community of Rama city and guests from all walks of life including the city developer Charles Davis, legendary anchor Easy Matjila.

The four legends, which include former professional soccer stars Aubrey Lekwane and Raymond Sebopa, as well as 1980 disco music dance World champion Godfrey Raseroka and beauty pageant mentor and entertainer Jonas Lebudi have never been recognised and honoured for their efforts and it was a great humbling and emotional for them to be honoured by the Rama City Community which is situated in Ga-Rankuwa.

Raymond Sebopa, who used to play for Super Sport United FC, could hold his tears back as he thanked the Rama City Community for the honour bestowed upon him.

He has since retired from football and told dinner guests that he had been hoping that Super Sports would honour him in one way or another, but they have not happened, but that he was grateful to be honoured by the people of Rama City.

“We are living in a funny country where people honour you only when you are dead and name streets after you, but I am grateful that the community of Rama City has honoured me while I am still alive, so I am grateful to Ntate Nthite for honouring living people, not dead ones,” said former Orlando Pirates winger Aubrey Lekwane upon receiving the honour from Rama City.

“Since 1988 I have been involved in community development in acting, dance and beauty pageants and one of the people that I have mentored is Primrose Molwantwa, who won the 2002 Miss Face of Africa beauty pageant, so I am grateful to Mr Nthite and the community of Rama for honouring me for my efforts throughout the years,” said Lebudi.

Veteran Setswana TV newsreader Easy Matjila, who was honoured last year by Rama City, was also in attendance and was a guest speaker at the gala event.

He praised all the persons who were honoured by Rama City on Saturday and proved that he knew them very well from his days as a sports broadcaster and presenter at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

“Being honoured by any community, including Rama City, is a great achievement which must be accepted with humility and seriousness as it is something that will be written in the history books and will never get erased,” said Matjila.

The honoured guests were handed their portraits and achievement awards.

In his keynote address to the guests, Rama City Committee chairperson Mpho Nthite announced that the community will benefit a lot from the knowledge and skills of the honoured guests as they will all be enlisted to pass their expertise to the young generation in Rama City.

“We don’t just honour people and leave them like that, we are going to make sure that they actively participate in the development of Rama City in their various fields of expertise,” said Nthite.

“All of us have dreams and talents and we must make sure that we use our talents to the maximum,” he said.

Nthite expressed sadness that disco dance champion Godfrey Raseroka couldn’t attend to the dinner gala to accept his honour, but expressed hope that the legendary dancer will be able to attend next year’s event.
