Members of the South African Police Service stationed at Boschkop SAPS acted swiftly on information received from a concerned community member regarding a suspected unlicensed firearm at a tavern in the Skierlik informal settlement.

The members carefully operationalised the intelligence by approaching the area on foot to avoid alerting the suspect, using the opportunity to observe and gather additional information.

The suspect was positively identified and placed under discreet surveillance.

Once his movements were confirmed, the officers tactically approached and detained him.

Upon searching the suspect, they recovered an unlicensed 9mm firearm with its serial number filed off, along with four live rounds of ammunition and one magazine.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Ongoing investigations are underway to determine whether the suspect is linked to other criminal activities.

The confiscated firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish whether it was used in any other crimes.

Major-General Samuel Thine commended the members for their excellent work and encouraged the community to continue working with the police by reporting any suspicious or criminal activity in their neighbourhoods.
