The visit formed part of the Speaker’s ongoing commitment to promoting academic
excellence and supporting learners, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
As a token of appreciation and encouragement, Cllr Ndzwanana handed over some school essentials including dignity packs for both male and female learners.
This is aimed at supporting the learners’ educational needs while ensuring their dignity is upheld during the school year.
Addressing the Grade 12 Class of 2026, the Speaker emphasised the importance of
discipline, focus, and personal responsibility in achieving academic success.
“You will not be doing this for me, your teachers or your parents but you will be doing it for yourselves,” said Cllr Ndzwanana.
Some of you may be the first in your families to obtain a matric certificate, attend university and graduate.
That will only be possible if you listen to your teachers and prioritise your education, as it is the tool that will shape your future.”
He further encouraged unity among learners and urged them to reject bullying in all its forms.
“Let us respect one another, regardless of our backgrounds or where we come from.
Focus on your studies and your life goals.
Do not bully one another but rather, support those who may be struggling academically,” he said.
Cllr Ndzwanana also commended the school’s educators for their role in the school’s outstanding matric performance.
“We really appreciate your work and efforts in making sure that our children are well taught at school,” he added.
Mahlenga Secondary School is among the schools adopted by Speaker Ndzwanana as
part of a broader partnership aimed at supporting learners and improving access to educational resources.
Through this initiative, the Speaker hopes to contribute meaningfully to youth development and the advancement of education across the City of Tshwane.
