City of Tshwane libraries, under the Community and Social Development Services Department is hosting the Spelling Bee City finals on 14 March 2025 at Sebothoma Community Hall in Region 2.

The competition is for grades 5 – 7 learners.

The competition will be conducted in the following languages: Sepedi, Setswana, IsiZulu, IsiNdebele, Tshivenda and Xitsonga.

Position 1 to position 3 winners of each
language at regional competitions were automatically admitted to the city finals.

The Spelling Bee Project aims to encourage reading and to support the formal education of learners through the spelling bee competitions.

Through this project, we also aim to preserve and to promote Indigenous Languages therefore this is one of
the unique ways where participants will pride themselves in their home languages.

We are pleased to see that the City is making good on its approved Service Delivery Budget Implementation Plans (SDBIP).

The campaign is targeting an overall of at least 700 participants at regional level of which regional competition should at least have 100 participants.

The city finals will be targeting 400 participants which includes all accompanying teachers, regional winners, stakeholders and staff from City of Tshwane.

Winners will receive books/grocery
vouchers and medals for all the levels of the competition.
