Greater Tshwane Region ANC Chairperson, the current party Secretary George Matjila and deputy chairperson Tlangi Mogale
Incumbent Greater Tshwane Region ANC Chairperson and the current party Secretary George Matjila have been re-elected to their positions on Saturday afternoon at the 12th Conference of the party held in Pretoria.
The much-disputed conference, which started on Friday, is scheduled to run until today (Sunday)with closing remarks delivered by Modise as the party’s chairperson.
The duo was re-elected unopposed as those vying for their positions could not meet the required threshold to stand for election.
MMC for Utilities in the City of Tshwane Frans Boshielo as well as the party’s Communications Officer Bafuze Yabo were nominated from the floor to stand for election to the position of the party’s chairperson but they could not meet the required threshold of being endorsed by at least 17 branches prior to the conference, or alternatively 70 nominations by conference delegates if nominated from the floor of the conference.
Tlangi Mogale was also nominated from the conference floor but she declined the nomination.
This paved the way for Modise to be immediately declared chairperson of the ANC Greater Tshwane Region for the second time in a row.
For the position of the party’s Secretary, Ratshi Mashamba was nominated from the floor to run against Matjila but he (Mashamba) could not meet the required threshold.
For the position of Deputy Chairperson current MMC for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale defeated current MMC for Human Settlements Aaron Maluleka.
Regarding the position of Deputy Secretary of the party, Sam Mashola was immediately declared the winner as Mandla Moropa who had been nominated from the floor to oppose him didn’t meet the said threshold requirements.
The position of the party’s Treasurer was won by James Shilenge who defeated Councillor Ananias Mogalusi and Motlalepule Mabena.
Nicolas Monyai was also nominated from the floor for this position but he couldn’t meet the threshold.
