City of Tshwane MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management Ziyanda Zwane put on overall and went to the street of Atteridgville in Tshwane and get his hands dirty by helping officials of waste removal department to remove waste in the area. MMC Zwane monitors and works with waste removal teams on Friday.
City of Tshwane MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management Ziyanda Zwane told the Tshwane Talks that in the past few months have not been easy owing to the illegal strike that affected overall service delivery, especially waste removal, across the city. The inconsistencies in timely waste collection services created enormous backlogs which we worked hard to address.
“I was in Atteridgeville to monitor and work with the waste removal teams in cleaning up our city as illegal dumping had pile up since the illegal strike and dirty is part of my department and I won’t fold my arms and watch city turn into dumping,” MMC Zwane said.
He said the city is still facing a huge illegal dumping challenge. Residents are reminded that illegal dumping spots become a breeding ground for bacteria and pests and can cause serious health issues. The eradication of illegal dumping is our collective responsibility, and we encourage everyone to play their part in keeping Tshwane clean.
“I’m happy to inform the residents of Tshwane that the worse is over and waste operations are gradually returning to the normal schedule across all seven regions of Tshwane,” he said.
MMC Zwane reminded Tshwane residents should their bins not be uncollected on their scheduled day; residents can report this at our Customer Care Centre on 012 358 9999 or at customercare@tshwane.gov.za. The following information should be included: • Customer’s full name and surname • Street address, suburb and region as on the utility account • Contact number • Date not lifted.
“City of Tshwane waste removal department is gradually getting back to its waste removal schedule and urged residents to stop illegal dumping and to take out their bin on the day of the collection,” MMC Zwane said.
