MMC for Utilities in the City of Tshwane Frans Boshielo is happy with progress that has been made so far by the City of Tshwane technical team in restoring power to Lusaka (Mamelodi Extension 22).

Power restoration efforts by the City of Tshwane have been necessitated by an incident which happened on Thursday this past week, whereby the 11 KV overhead electricity network hooked with ten wooden poles was reportedly struck and subsequently damaged by a passing truck on the local main road, thus leading to power outages in the area.

Network lines fell to the ground and transformers were as a result broken.

The City of Tshwane Municipality technical team was immediately dispatched to investigate the damage and restore power to the area.

On Sunday MMC Boshielo visited areas affected by the power outages to assess progress on power restoration efforts, and came out happy thereafter because the dedicated technical team was working hard in this regard to restore power to the residents within a reasonable time.

“18 transformers or blocks were affected by the incident on Thursday, but on Friday night last week power was partially restored to 11 out of the 18 blocks; this after isolating the faulty, damaged portion of the network and leaving only seven blocks off,” said Boshielo.

“On Saturday night power was further restored to six of the seven blocks after reinstating the 11 KV network that had been damaged,” he said.

He said the technical team completed the installation of the last and final block which was expected to be restored on Monday 29 September.

“I would like to thank all residents affected by the power outages for their cooperation and patience during the period of power restoration and I would like to urge residents to stop tampering with electricity meters and transformers so as to ensure reliable and sustainable power supply to everyone” he said.
