The uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) in Gauteng strongly condemns the Tshwane Mayor’s latest PR stunt and dismal politicking, in which she proudly boasted about cutting electricity supply to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.

While the hospital is reportedly in arrears with the City, and honour their obligations for municipal services, however it is unacceptable for patients to suffer due to the Gauteng Department of Health’s administrative failures.

The ones most affected by this reckless and inhumane decision are among the most
vulnerable in our society, mentally ill patients and the medical staff who must now work under compromised conditions.

We call on the mayor to familiarize herself with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to better understand how such matters should be handled.

As a revolutionary party founded on the
people’s mandate to protect the most vulnerable and less privileged, while protecting their dignity, MKP will not stand by while the pursuit of capital and politicking overrides the imperative to deliver basic services to those in need.

Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, located in the west of Tshwane, serves both in- and outpatients in need of psychiatric care. MKP will not tolerate actions that further marginalize those who deserve compassion and support.

To that end, we will visit the institution today, Tuesday, 06 May 2025, to verify whether electricity has been restored.

If it has not, MKP will assume its revolutionary responsibility and occupy all City of Tshwane offices until the matter is resolved.
