The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (“MK Party”) expresses deep concern over the rising number of investigations involving members of the judiciary.
We once again strongly reiterate our call for mandatory lifestyle audits and full asset declarations by all members of the judiciary.
The recent decision by the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) to place three officials on precautionary suspension, following an ongoing investigation by the South African Police Service’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) into allegations of fraud and corruption, has raised serious concerns.
This growing trend of judicial misconduct points to an alarming culture of corruption that appears to be infiltrating the legal profession a risk
that we, as a nation, cannot take.
Our previous position remains unchanged: the judiciary is the bedrock of any constitutional democracy and must remain beyond reproach.
It is imperative that judges, who bear the responsibility of upholding the law, be subject to strict oversight.
Rigorous safeguards must be implemented to prevent corruption from taking root within South Africa’s legal system.
The MK Party continues to challenge the dangerous myth of judicial immunity and infallibility.
No one is above the law, including those entrusted to interpret and enforce it.
