The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (“MK Party”) notes, with deep concern and strong
condemnation, the recent confession by a 48-year-old suspect who set fire to critical sections of Tembisa Hospital.
This deliberate act of arson targeted areas containing key evidence related to the R2.3 billion corruption scandal, first brought to light by the late whistleblower Ms. Babita Deokaran.
Following a visit to the site, the MK Party observed a crime scene that was inadequately handled.
The destruction of essential public healthcare records is not a minor administrative setback, it is a serious blow to the principles of justice, transparency and the constitutional
right to quality healthcare.
It is our firm belief that the fire was no accident.
It occurred at a critical juncture, just as the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) was closing in on a deeply entrenched network of corruption within the healthcare sector.
The involvement of the hospital security guard who is currently under investigation raises serious concerns about the infiltration of criminal elements into key state institutions.
The MK Party poses the following critical questions:
-Why did this act of arson coincide so closely with the SIU’s high-profile
corruption investigation?
-Who stands to benefit from the destruction of potentially incriminating evidence?
-To what extent has corruption penetrated the structures of the Gauteng provincial government?
In light of these disturbing developments, the MK Party calls for the following immediate actions:
1.The immediate suspension, prosecution and dismissal of all officials implicated in this scandal, irrespective of rank.
Charges of corruption and treason must be pursued without delay.
2.The urgent and public release of the SIU’s findings to ensure that all individuals involved, from junior clerks to senior public servants, are exposed and held accountable.
3.Investigate all the companies involved in the R2.3 billion corruption including the directors of those companies and their financial activities at Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), South African Revenue Services (SARS) and Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
4.The establishment of a dedicated anti-corruption tribunal, insulated from political influence, to expedite justice and restore public trust in the legal system.
5.Legislation must be enacted to provide comprehensive government-funded
protection for whistleblowers who risk their lives to expose corruption.
6.A national initiative to vet all security personnel through:
– Criminal background checks and polygraph examinations.
– Financial and lifestyle audits.
– Psychological fitness evaluations.
The MK Party strongly rejects the suggestion that this fire was a mere coincidence or an unfortunate mishap.
It was a deliberate attempt to erase evidence and protect those involved
in a corrupt syndicate, one that is increasingly desperate to shield itself from accountability.
The MK Party will not relent in our pursuit of justice, whether it be from the arsonist to those orchestrating these events from Luthuli House.
The MK Party remains committed to exposing the truth.
The time for passive endurance is over.
We call on all South Africans to stand with us as we confront corruption, defend our democracy and rebuild a just and accountable society for our people.
