The Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale together with the Acting National Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, present the quarterly crime statistics, reflecting on crimes that occurred during the fourth quarter of the previous financial year (January 2026 – March 2026).
The media briefing was held on Friday afternoon at GCIS Auditorium, Tshedimosetso House, Pretoria.
The latest South African Police Service (SAPS) crime statistics, covering the January to March 2026 quarter, show 5,181 people were murdered (an average of 58 per day) and 9,782 rapes were reported. While murder figures dropped by 9.5% compared to the same period last year, violent crime levels remain critically high.
