cohort to be trained as Gauteng traffic wardens
The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has commenced with the training of the Military Veterans as Gauteng Traffic Wardens (GTWs).
This comes after the pronouncement by the Gauteng Premier, Panyanza Lesufi, during the State of the Province Address for 2024 that Military Veterans would be recruited to join the Gauteng Traffic Wardens.
On Thursday 27 June 2024, more than 750 Military Veterans, who are part of the 4th cohort to be trained as GTWs, arrived at the 3 South African Infantry Battalion in Kimberley and were welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Mothogwane, the Acting Officer Commanding.
Their Peace Officer and Traffic Warden training, which will include physical training, will be facilitated by the South African National Defense Force, Gauteng Traffic Police and the Mangaung Traffic College.
Pursuant to the completion of training, the trainees will be appointed as Peace Officers in line with Section 334 of the Criminal Procedure Act and subsequently, as Traffic Wardens according to Section 3(a) 1(b) of the National Road Traffic Act.
The Gauteng Traffic Wardens undergo continuous on-the-job training, to enable them to carry out their duties efficiently.
Upon returning from Kimberley, the Military Veterans will continue with training, which will include training for various specialized unit.
