Tshwane Metro Police Chief Commissioner YCR Faro has commended his staff members for a sterling job that they carried out during the Easter Holidays in Tshwane.

This as the department’s K9 unit managed to recover two stolen vehicles within an hour in Mamelodi on Easter Monday.

In the first incident, according to a statement released by Tshwane Metro Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, a Nissan Micra was reported stolen in Hatfield after suspects somehow managed to steal the car keys from the owner’s pocket, got into the car and fled the scene in it.

In another incident on the same Easter Monday a Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from Moretele Park in Mamelodi and recovered in Nellmapius.

“The circumstances under which the car was stolen are still unclear, but the department’s KY unit was activated, and the car was recovered in less than an hour,” said Mahamba.

“No suspects have been arrested as yet for either case,” he said.

Mahamba called upon anyone with information regarding these two car theft incidents the Metro Police on 012 359 7095/7096.

Mahamba also announced that the by-law unit of Region 6 and other law-enforcement agencies conducted a by-law and road safety operation in Mamelodi and managed to issue 61 AARTO 01 infringement notices amounting to R53 300 to motorists who were found in default of the law.

“A total of 23 Section 56 infringement notices were issued to business owners fir non-compliance to the amount of R15 300,” he said.
