Mamelodi men from all corners of Mamelodi, Eersterus and Nellmapius joined the 12 km fun walk against GBV on 16 December.
The fun walk started at Rethabile sports ground in Mamelodi east and ended at Tshwane Regional mall in Mamelodi west.
The fun walk was organise by Mamelodi Men’s forum an NGO that’s deal with men’s issues.
TJ fitness club also took part and helps the participants in exercising after the long walk.
Mamelodi Men’s forums were joined by different stakeholders such as Vhathu Phanda, Musamu, Community safety Brigade, CPF, Future Families, IEC, It Possible for all organisation.
Chairperson of Mamelodi Men’s forum Pastor Frans Mamogobo told the Tshwane Talks that they organise a fun walk against GBV.
The purpose of the walk was to bring awareness around GBV.
We did some research as men’s and notice that GBV stat keeps growing every day and it is not going down.
“We as man of Mamelodi we decided to raise awareness by organising fun walk and to tell the perpetrators to stop,” Pastor Mamogobo said.
He said they walk from Rethabile sports ground to Tshwane Regional mall handing out GBV pamphlets to motorists and public and talking to the public about GBV.
“We want to plead with victims to please report GBV and help is available,” he said.
Pastor Mamogobo said there are Centre where victims can go and be safe.
We urge all the victims of GBV to come forward and have courage to speak up and get help.
“Our forum is centered around health, and we encourage men to do exercises and we hope through exercises we hope their health improves,” Mamogobo said.
