The Principal of Mamelodi High School FS Selahle is under fire due to alleged shenanigans at his school.
One of the issues that has been raised against Selahle is that he has unilaterally stopped women vendors from selling food to children at the school since last year in September.
According to sources, Selahle wants the school’s tuckshop to be the only one that sells food to learners because he is allegedly profiting personally from the money generated by the tuck shop.
Vendors who have been stopped from selling food to children at Mamelodi High School told Tshwane Talks that selling food at the school was their only source of income and now that they have been stopped from selling food at the school their lives are miserable and that they can’t meet their daily needs.
They explained that they have certificates of compliance which are required by the school before they can be allowed to sell food there, but still the principal is preventing them from selling food at the school.
“We have paid R1 600 for those compliance certificates at the health department offices situated at Sammy Marks Square and we want a refund in this regard because we are not allowed to work,” said one of the vendors who have been stopped from selling food at Mamelodi High School.
Tshwane Talks sent Selahle a list of questions regarding the alleged shenanigans but at the time of publishing this story he had not yet responded.
In the list of questions, Selahle is asked to reveal as to when and where a decision to prevent vendors from selling food at the school was taken and produce minutes of the said meeting.
Other allegations made against Selahle by members of the community are that he always hires a certain builder/construction company from Limpopo whenever there are building or repairs/maintenance projects at the school.
Apparently this is in blatant disregard to the established norm that dictates that local construction companies are the ones which must be given first preference in this regard.
Broken windows at Mamelodi High School have not been fixed since 2021; Jojo tanks are not working; there are no lights in Block H of the school and there is shortage of stationery at the school.
It is also alleged that Selahle never gives full financial statements regarding the funds of the school but merely makes verbal announcements as to what the money was spent on.
Now it has emerged that the Gauteng Department of Education’s Tshwane South District Finance Unit has recommended that Mamelodi High School’s finance policy be reviewed as it apparently fails to hold those dealing with funds at the school accountable.
When contacted for comment regarding Selahle’s alleged decision to stop vendors from doing their job at Mamelodi High School, Gauteng Education Spokesperson Steve Mabona said his department does not involve itself in such matters; that the issue must be dealt with by the principal and the Schools Governing Body (SGB).
