The Lehlabile Secondary School alumni (former learners) and learners and teacher donating school uniform
The Lehlabile Secondary School alumni (former learners) want to see the school being the best-performing institution in terms of Matric results from now going forward.
Towards this end, the alumni has introduced a new phenomenon this year whereby two best-performing learners (one male and the other female)in Grade 11 have been awarded bursaries.
The names of the Grade 11 best-performing learners are Mpendulo Tshabalala and Ramaisela Kgothatso Mapulana.
“The reason we have chosen Grade 11 learners is that next year they will be here and serve as an example to other learners that hard work pays off; that they must also work hard if they want to be awarded bursaries as well,” said the alumni committee’s chairperson Advocate Lekau Dibakwane.
“The present Grade 12 learners won’t have enough time to be exemplary to other learners because they will be leaving the school in four months’ time while the present Grade 11 learners will still be here for the whole of the 2026 academic year doing Matric,” he said.
“We have talked to the learners and told them that going forward we want to see Lehlabile Secondary School being the best-performing institution in terms of Matric results because year-in-and-year-out we hear about Ribane Laka Secondary and Stanza Bopape Secondary being the best-performing schools in terms of Matric results,” said the Advocate.
Besides awarding the bursaries to the best-performing learners at Lehlabile Secondary School, the alumni has, like it always does every year, bought full school uniform for needy learners this year.
46 needy learners became beneficiaries of the alumni’s kind gesture this year.
“The uniform entails socks, trousers, skirts, shirts, jerseys and ties,” said Dibakwane.
“The purpose of the alumni is to plough back into our former school Lehlabile Secondary and the alumni’s executive committee represents plus minus 150 former learners of the school who all make contributions from their own pockets to make things happen at the school,” he explained.
The Lehlabile Secondary School alumni executive committee is made up as follows:
1.Advocate Lekau Dibakwane (Chairperson)
2.Advocate Modiba ( Deputy Chairperson) 3. Advocate Mosima Teffo ( Deputy Secretary)
4.Russell Mamabolo (Secretary General) 5.Seemola Matlala (Treasurer General)
Additional executive committee members of the alumni are Mothiba, Lucas Molobela and Delcie Pitso.
“What we do every year is that we buy uniforms but going forward we are going to check upon all other challenges that the school may be facing and see how we can help,” he said.
Dibakwane said the alumni intends building a hall for the school and tackle any other development issues there.
In response to the good work done for the school by the alumni, principal Fannie Kubjane expressed joy about the goodies that were brought to the school by the alumni on Friday.
“What the alumni has done for us is very much imperative because most of our learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds and these goodies will put us in good stead to help needy learners at our school,” he said.
Kubjane said in some instances learners from disadvantaged backgrounds fear to come to school because they don’t have any shoes, shirts and trousers to speak of.
“We as parents are celebrating the donations given to the school by the alumni and will go a long way because as it is now winter needy learners will also be warm as they will be kitted out in jerseys, socks and trousers,” said School Governing Body (SGB) Chairperson Caroline Sebesho.
