The ISSSP risks management and compliance consulting denounce and condemn in the strongest possible terms the violent and criminal punishment that was meted out to the Learners for late coming on Monday the 19th of May 2025, at Soshanguve South Secondary School, allegedly by members of the community of Extension 8 Soshanguve, in collusion with the school officials.

Accordingly, the video clips depicting the incident and the manner in which learners were brutally assaulted broad day light on the day in question with shambocks, went viral on Social Media.

It is understood that most of the Learners sustained minor to serious injuries as a result of the beatings.

Our condemnation in this regard, is based on the fact that any act or conduct of ‘School-Based Violence and Criminality’ at any South African School, no matter how trivial, is harmful, inhuman and degrading and consequently impact negatively towards the ‘Social’, ‘Psychological’,‘Physical’ and ‘Emotional’ well-being of Learners, Educators, Principals and School Support Staff alike; and our position is that such conducts and actions constitutes infringements upon their rights and a gross violation of their Basic Human Rights as enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

We do not encourage late coming from learners and neither do we condone anti-social behaviour by and from the learners in any manner whatsoever.

Furthermore, as much as we value and appreciate the involvement of the community in educational matters, as the saying goes that it takes a village to raise a child, that should always be encouraged. However, we sincerely believe that the same involvement by the community, should be done or rather be dealt with, within the confines of the law, particularly the Basic Human Rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Country, the South African School Act and applicable policies, which are clear on the issue of Corporal Punishment or the abolishment thereof.

Finally, ours as a School orientated Risks Management and Compliance Company, is to create Risks free schooling Environment, through application of effective solutions, meant for Total-Risks Management and Compliance in South African Public and Private Schools and we plan to collaborate with Multi-Community Stakeholders to achieve that.
