Aggrieved DA Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille is of the opinion that those calling for the removal of Cilliers Brink from the position of City of Tshwane Mayor will be judged very harshly by history.

Zille voiced out this opinion in a video message released to the public on Wednesday evening, which is the eve of the motion of no confidence in Cilliers Brink scheduled for Thursday 26 September 2024 in the municipal chambers.

“As you watch this video, Cilliers Brink might be facing his last day in office as Mayor of Tshwane and this is a tragedy not only for Tshwane but for the Government of National Unity as a whole,” said Zille.

“The motion of no confidence has been brought against Brink not because he is doing badly, but because he is doing well,” said Zille.

“His opponents would rather destroy the Capital City’s chances of recovery and undermine the Government of National Unity than allow him to succeed and show what is possible,” she said.

“History will judge them very harshly; people who pursue their own political vendettas at the cost of the future of South Africa,” she said.

“Tragically, these people are pulling against the spirit of the GNU and if they succeed in voting Cilliers Brink out, then South Africa will suffer” said Zille.

“Anybody who wants a better future for the whole country must back Brink in Tshwane,” she enthused.

Meanwhile, the DA Media team has released a statement in Wednesday wherein it announces that its members will protest outside the City of Tshwane Municipal chambers in support of the “excellent work Executive Mayor Brink and his administration are doing to turn around the Capital City.”

“The motion of no confidence might not be tabled in the chambers because I don’t think the ANC is serious about removing Brink from office as they are merely engaged in gimmicks,” said The Transformation Alliance President Abel Tau.

“But let’s hope that the ANC carries out the motion as promised so that we can usher in a new dispensation in Tshwane politics and also for the people of Tshwane, because Cilliers Brink is the worst mayor Tshwane has ever had,” said Tau.

ActionSA close source assured Tshwane Talks that there is no way the ANC will withdraw the motion this time around and that they as ActionSA will vote with the ANC to remove Brink from the mayoral position.

“Currently Brink is left only with a few hours in office,” said close source.

Laudium Atteridgeville Saulsville Civics Association (LASCA) leader Tshepo Mahlangu told Tshwane Talks that Brink is concerned more with stabilising the Coalition arrangement rather than stabilising Tshwane.

“And he wants to cling to power at all costs regardless of his administration’s failure to serve townships and informal settlements,” said Mahlangu.
