Three gunmen were shot and killed by the police at a house situated in the Stoffel Park informal settlement, Far East of Mamelodi on Tuesday evening.

Stoffel Park informal settlement is one of the areas which are notorious for gangster violence and general crime activities in and around Mamelodi.

Last months local Ward 10 Councillor Thabang Masemola was gunned down at point blank by a group of gangsters allegedly after an argument regarding the awarding of tenders in the area.

According to Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Singo, police acted on information regarding a group of suspects who were allegedly in possession of illegal firearms at a house situated in Extension 15 of the informal settlement.

“The SAPS Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) then acted upon the information and a multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operation consisting of the Hawks, TOMS, Gauteng Highway Patrol, Airwing and local police from the Mamelodi East Police Station then visited the said house and pounced on the gunmen whereby a shootout ensued between the police and the gunmen.

“Three suspects were shot and killed during the fracas and the fourth suspect fled the scene and the police recovered one AR rifle and two pistols,” explained Singo.
