The statistics released by Police Minister Kachalia, revealing that 64 people are murdered every single day in South Africa, are a painful reminder that our nation is under siege.
The right to life, as enshrined in Section 11 of the Constitution, is being violated daily with impunity.
In June, when Parliament opened submissions for constitutional amendments, FOSA formally submitted its position calling for stronger protection of the right to life.
We argued that individuals who deliberately take the lives of others clearly place no value on life and should face the highest possible consequences.
Despite our submission, Parliament has not responded. Today, FOSA reiterates and strengthens its call:
The death penalty must be reintroduced specifically for those who intentionally and deliberately murder innocent people.
Our stance is clear:
An “eye for an eye” is not a call for revenge, but a call for justice, deterrence, and the restoration of the sanctity of human life.
South Africans cannot continue living under fear while violent criminals act without consequence.
FOSA stands firm with the victims, their families, and all law-abiding citizens who deserve safety, dignity, and justice.
