As we draw closer to the deadline for our Debt Relief and Incentive Scheme, we
want to remind residents and businesses that there are only 10 days left to take
advantage of this valuable opportunity.
The deadline for applications is 31 May 2025.
The Debt Relief and Incentive Scheme has received extraordinary engagement from
our residents, with a total of 19,853 Amnesty Application Forms submitted. Of these,17,140 applications have been successfully captured, indicating a robust response from residents and businesses seeking financial relief from their municipal debts.
Notably, 5,069 of these applications have been directed specifically toward electricity debt relief, addressing critical service arrears that directly impact our community’s well-being.
A significant milestone in our debt management efforts has been the writing off of R1.84 billion in debt from 31,540 inactive accounts.
This strategic decision not only reduces the municipality’s financial liability but also provides a fresh start for those who have been burdened by outstanding debts.
We are also pleased to report that 460 residential accounts have opted into our debt relief options, alongside 19 business accounts.
This participation has resulted in a significant impact, with R76.54 million of affected debt and R26.51 million officially written off.
Moreover, our initiative places a strong emphasis on assisting vulnerable members
of our community, having written off R2.42 billion from indigent accounts.
This reflects our unwavering commitment to social responsibility and our dedication to ensuring equitable access to essential services for all
residents of Tshwane.
These performance metrics underscore our commitment to financial accountability,
community engagement, and the proactive management of municipal finances.
We strongly encourage all residents and businesses to take this last opportunity to make arrangements with the City and benefit from the relief provided under this plan.
Time is of the essence. Please make sure you submit your application before the
deadline on 31 May 2025.
Together, we can work toward financially sound future for our community.
