A distraught Eersterust mom Bonesa Mason is appealing to the public to donate money into a fund that would be used for her son’s emergency surgery.

According to Mason, her son Reanu (23) was shot in Eersterust, Tshwane on Friday 11 April while trying to come to the rescue of his friend who was being hijacked.

“Reanu came out of the house when he realised that his friend was being hijacked and tried to help, but unfortunately he was shot in the leg and hand and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment, but he was turned away from the private hospital due to lack of medical insurance, and was instead transferred to a public hospital in Tshwane where he is still waiting for surgery,” explained Mason.

“I feel that the wait is long there and I am of the opinion that timely intervention is crucial to save his life,” she said.

She said Reanu is a talented barber.

She has therefore established the GoFundMe account for members of the public to donate money therein.

She said money donated into the GoFundMe account will cover the following:

1.Private hospital surgery. 2.Physiotherapy.
3.Follow-up care.

The bank details are as follows: Account holder: BF Mason, Capitec Bank, Account number: 2163882868.

Reanu Mason’s friend Naylan Smith was shot and killed during the said hijacking.

In response to the hijacking incident, local Patriotic Alliance Councillor Debyre Williams Moses said the following:

“This is really a tragic incident for whole community of Eersterust and of late there has been a surge in incidents of hijackings in the area including incidents of robbing Uber drivers, and lack of police visibility and slow response times by the police are disheartening and contribute to criminals not being apprehended.”

She appealed to the City of Tshwane Municipality to fix street lights and high mast lights in Eersterust and all communities in Tshwane because poor or no lighting contributes to criminality.
