City of Tshwane Deputy Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya has initiated forensic investigations into the unfinished Refilwe and Caledonian stadiums in Tshwane.

The forensic investigations come after the Deputy Mayor visited the Refilwe Stadium in Cullinan last Friday and the Caledonian Stadium earlier this year.

Moya revealed on Friday at the Refilwe Stadium that a forensic investigation had been requested on Wednesday regarding the two unfinished stadiums.

She said the Refilwe Stadium project commenced in 2013 with approximately R80 million invested in its construction and is now 95% complete after 11 years, adding that efforts were underway to expedite the final stages of the project.

“In light of the challenges encountered during the construction of the two stadiums, including the appointment of an underperforming contractor and issues regarding proper project management and oversight, it is imperative that a forensic investigation be conducted,” wrote Moya in a statement sent to Tshwane Talks.

“This investigation will encompass the procurement process, project management practice and recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in future projects,” read the statement.

In conclusion Moya said the City of Tshwane remained committed to the upkeep and maintenance of community infrastructure to ensure they serve their intended purpose which is for the benefit of residents.
