The Democratic Alliance (DA) will formally write to Acting City Manager Musa Kumalo, warning him that any attempt to approve irregular procurement, revive contracts previously blocked by City Manager Johann Mettler, or facilitate unlawful expenditure will have serious consequences.
The ANC-ActionSA-EFF coalition’s unlawful suspension of Mr Mettler must not become an opportunity to open the floodgates of corruption.
Mr Mettler stood in the way of irregular decisions.
His removal cannot be allowed to pave the way for political interference in the administration or the looting of public funds.
We want to make it clear to both the Acting City Manager and the ANC-ActionSA-EFF coalition of corruption that, if the people of Tshwane give us a mandate to govern on 4 November, we will conduct a comprehensive review of every procurement and administrative decision taken during this period.
Any unlawful or irregular decision will be challenged and, where necessary, set aside.
We will hold every person responsible to account.
If you steal public funds, we will do everything in our power to make sure you end up behind bars.
We believe the suspension of Johann Mettler was unlawful, and we are consulting with our legal representatives on the appropriate course of action.
We will continue to oppose every attempt to undermine the professional administration of the City of Tshwane and will keep residents informed as this matter develops.
