Slain Ward 10 Councillor Thabang Masemola was described as a dedicated Councillor who loved his community as well as his organisation the African National Congress at a memorial service held to celebrate his life on Monday in Lusaka, far East of Mamelodi.
He was gunned down last week in Lusaka in the Far East of Mamelodi.
His uncle described him as a loyal member of the ANC who would do everything in his power to seve his community.
MK Party Mamelodi Sub- region member Alpheus Sealetsa described Masemola as a kind-hearted, generous person whose death has shocked everyone because at the age of 34 he was still young.
“As MK members we are saying we know Councillor Masemola very well and though he (Masemola) was a member of the ANC, he actually contributed a lot towards recently towards the burial of the late Chief Mabena who was an MK Party member,” said Sealetsa.
Regional Deputy chairperson of the ANC Youth League in Tshwane Thabang Mahlomuza told Tshwane Talks that Councillor Masemola was a dedicated servant of the people who was one of the youngest Councillors in the City of Tshwane together with Councillor Tsiane.
“When the ANC Youth League made a national call for young people to be given space in the corridors of power whereby they would be able to contribute towards contributing towards uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the youth, Masemola heeded such a call as a young person and became a Councillor,” he said.
MMC for Utilities in the City of Tshwane Frans Boshielo described Councillor Masemola as a humble person with a strong personality who was unwavering in his stance on many issues and if he was not satisfied with anything he would say so without dilly-dallying.
Boshielo described Masemola as a natty-dresser who was also a revolutionary who served with him in the City of Tshwane and inspired him a lot.
Another speaker described Masemola as a person who adhered to the ANC’s founding principles of Ubuntu, unity and kindness.
“We must emulate what the late ANC President Nelson Mandela described as the reconstruction and development of the soul, and rededicate ourselves to the ANC,” he said.
The memorial service was attended by hundreds of mourners including ANC, EFF, MK Party members as well as community members at large.
City of Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya was also in attendance together with MMC for Social Development Palesa Modise, MMC for Economic Development Sarah Mabotsa and Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dickson Masemola and Gauteng MEC for transport Kedibone Diale Tlabela.
Councillor Masemola will be buried at Ga-Mphahlele village in the Limpopo Province.
One of the ANC Youth League members who is also a friend of Masemola, Mikateko Phalane told mourners that Councillor Thabang Masemola was a remarkable individual whose contributions, kindness and enduring spirit must be celebrated.
“His leadership and commitment to making a difference touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire us for generations to come,” he said.
“Let us take this time to share memories, express our gratitude for having known him, and find solace in the unity of our shared mourning and celebration of his life,” said Phalane.
