The VF Plus regards the Tshwane Metro’s court application against private firefighting services as reckless, as it places the safety of the community at risk.

During my term of office as a member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), I already warned that these steps go against sound advice and are not in the best interests of the City or its residents.

The City is wasting taxpayers’ money on fruitless legal battles and is already on its third legal team in this matter.

Moreover, the court has issued punitive costs order against Tshwane.

Hundreds of thousands of rands of taxpayers’ money is being burned through poor decision-making.

The City’s stance in court that private services may not draw water from fire hydrants even in extreme circumstances is reckless; saving lives must take precedence over bureaucracy.

The City must immediately halt further legal action and the waste of funds on futile litigation.

This ruling opens the door for the rest of the country for private services.
