Concerned Tshwane Liqour Traders Association members
With the Easter holidays looming in the month of April, Concerned Tshwane Liqour Traders Association has taken it upon itself to embark on a campaign against drinking and driving.
According to the association’s president Oupa Mthombeni, the reason to embark on the campaign is that there are many accidents which are caused by drinking and driving, especially during holidays like Easter.
The campaign was launched at Oupa’s Tavern in Lindo Park on Tuesday.
“As liquor traders we decided to get involved and try to minimise accidents that claim the lives of many people because of drinking and driving.
Mthombeni told Tshwane Talks that after launching the event, members of his organisation went into Church Street as well as in streets in and around Gezina and also at toll gates to hand out pamphlets to drivers and pedestrians.
About 2000 pamphlets were printed for distribution among members of the public with a warning against the dangers of drinking and driving.
Mthombeni also warned pedestrians not to gallavant around the streets when they are drunk.
He said their stakeholders in this campaign are the South African Police Services ( SAPS), Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Community Safety, Absa Bank, Chibuku, Health Department and Liquor Board.
