Residents of Section A3 and surrounding areas in Mamelodi West clean umthombo primary school in Mamelodi west
Community leader Peter Masanabo has appealed to the residents of Section A3 and surrounding areas in Mamelodi West to join him and his fellow volunteers in their efforts to clean up an illegal dumping site next to Umthombo Primary School.
Last Saturday 10 May, only a few residents joined Masanabo and his volunteers in their endeavour to get rid of the filth that is prevalent at a piece of land next to the school.
“I have realised that people have started dumping garbage illegally next to Umthombo Primary School and the place is very filthy now, so I decided to make a call to street committee to canvass members of the community to band together to clean up the illegal dumping site,” said Masanabo.
“We need more man power because the number of people who turned up for the clean up campaign this past Saturday 10 May was very low and we couldn’t finish our job,” he said.
“I am appealing for more people to come on board and increase our numbers and we are going to start our campaign at 8am this coming Saturday 17 May,” he said.
Masanabo pointed out that with increased numbers they will be able to finish off their job quickly and knock off earlier than the anticipated 3pm knock off time,” he said.

“I appeal to all residents willing to help us out in our cleaning campaign to bring along their working tools like shovels and I urge residents to come in large numbers,” he said.
“There is tall grass and unbearable filth at the illegal dumping site and this state of affairs has a potential to negatively affect the health of the Umthombo Primary School learners in particular and the community in general,” said Masanabo.
“We discovered rats and snakes at the illegal dumping site and we have resolved that we will clean the area every three months and won’t allow dumping there anymore,” he said.
