The City of Tshwane has won a decisive legal battle against lawlessness, as the
Pretoria High Court today struck off the roll and dismissed with costs an appeal
brought by George Asaba, who sought to block the demolition of illegally constructed buildings in Pretoria West.

This ruling is a turning point in the City’s efforts to reclaim urban spaces from unlawful developments and send a strong message that no one is above the law.

For years, illegal buildings, land grabs, and hijacked properties have chipped away at service delivery, infrastructure, and public safety.

This Multiparty Coalition Government, through the Bad Buildings Committee, is taking a stand and pushing back against those who think they can bypass the law.

Tshwane is not a playground for opportunists who undermine governance for personal gain.

Mr. Asaba erected structures on Erf 1312 and Erf 1313 at 510 and 514 Luttig Street without approvals, violating the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act.

His attempt to fight against enforcement has failed, and he will now face the full financial consequences of his unlawful actions.

The City will proceed with demolitions
and ensure that illegal structures across Tshwane continue to be identified and removed.

The Multiparty Government in Tshwane is united in its mission to enforce by-laws, protect public safety, and defend the integrity of urban planning.

Illegal buildings do not just break the law – they pose severe risks to residents, drain municipal resources,
and damage investor confidence.

Tshwane residents who suspect illegal building activities in their communities are urged to report them to the City.

Together, we will build a safer, law-abiding, and well managed capital city.
