Dr Nasiphi Moya
Executive Mayor of Tshwane

Last week I attended the C40 World Mayors Summit and the COP30 Local Leaders Forum in Brazil, where mayors and city leaders from around the world came together to strengthen collaboration and accelerate action on the climate crisis.

This visit marks the end of an important year for Tshwane’s growing role in global city leadership.

As Co-Chair of the 2025 Urban 20 (U20) with Johannesburg, Tshwane has helped give African cities a strong voice in the global climate conversation.

In June we hosted the African Mayors Summit and the U20 Sherpa Meeting, where city leaders from across the continent agreed on shared priorities for climate resilience, a just transition, and better access to climate finance.

These efforts ensure that Africa’s urban priorities will be heard at the G20 World Leaders Summit later this month in Gauteng.

In Brazil, I shared Tshwane’s progress in advancing renewable energy, water security, and sustainable public transport.

The City also presented its Yearly Offer of Action, which sets out the practical climate actions we are implementing now and those planned for the year ahead.

This initiative connects global climate goals to outcomes that directly improve
communities, such as cleaner energy, safer water supply, and more reliable public services.

Climate change affects every resident. For a city like Tshwane, where we face challenges with infrastructure, water supply, and power stability, these engagements were an important
opportunity to call for greater access to international climate finance.

Our discussions with partners and investors focused on unlocking funding for clean energy, green infrastructure,
and projects that help protect communities from extreme weather.

We must not see climate change as a distant threat.

Its effects are already influencing jobs, livelihoods, and the well-being of families across our city.

These are the issues I am committed to championing, to ensure that Tshwane uses international partnerships to deliver
real and lasting benefits for residents.

By strengthening our voice on the global stage, we are helping to build a future of sustainable development, inclusive growth, and a better quality of
life for everyone.

My participation in the Summit and COP30 was fully funded by the organisers and came at no cost to the City of Tshwane.
