It is a widely accepted yet unwritten rule that Christmas time and its attendant year end festive season are a time for introspection.
It is a time when many if not all people generally take some time off to reflect upon their achievements and failures.
It is time to rue missed opportunities and celebrate grabbed chances which have brought positive developments in one’s life.
It is a time to abandon bad habits while mapping out new strategies to better one’s life.
It is a time to stop suffering from a state of inertia (continuing doing things the way they have been done before just because it is the way they have been done before, without making any improvements and changes).
Now in politics, my prediction is that parties which continue to fumble the way they have been fumbling all these years will fall by the proverbial wayside.
It is time for the said parties to do some introspection or face gradual demise.
For example it won’t help the EFF to continue calling for porous borders whereby foreigners can just walk in and out of the country willy-nilly.
It won’t help the EFF to continue quoting Fanon, Lumumba and other African philosophers because many South Africans simply want to see the country’s borders being shut down, finish en klaar!
It won’t help the ANC to continue saying it is fighting against corruption while we see acts of corruption by its members on a daily basis and the organisation doesn’t do anything to punish the corrupt perpetrators.
People want to see mass corruption trials and perpetrators of corruption going to jail on a daily basis, finish en klaar!
It won’t help the DA to keep on opposing transformation efforts like the BELA Bill just to please right-wing elements among themselves who are still hankering for the days of white supremacy.
People want social and economic transformation as in yesterday, finish en klaar!
It won’t help Jacob Zuma to keep on saying the present ANC is no longer the ANC but that it is the ANC of Ramaphosa, because this is not true at all.
People still want to see him answering to the infamous arms deal charges in court as well as the State Capture allegations as soon as possible, finish en klaar!
Parties like BOSA, IFP, PAC, UDM and Rise Msanzi must now come out of the closest and make unequivocal pronouncements regarding the issue of porous borders, illegal foreigners and spaza shops.
The issue of foreigners, be they legal or illegal is going to take centre stage in 2025 and any party that finds itself on the wrong side of the opinion of black South Africans on this matter will languish in the political doldrums and cease to be relevant.
A party like Operation Dudula will dramatically take centre stage in South African politics next year as it is addressing the issue of foreigners, food poisoning, Zama-Zamas as well as township and rural economic revitalisation.
Merry Christmas to you all!
