Newly appointed City of Tshwane Deputy Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya admitted to journalists on Tuesday this week that the reconstruction of the Caledonian Stadium in Tshwane is a project that went completely wrong and needs to be revamped from scratch.

The Deputy Mayor’s admission comes after members of the EFF and the community confronted her at the stadium on Tuesday, demanding answers regarding lack of progress in the construction of the stadium.

“Caledonian Stadium is a project gone wrong.

We as the City are concerned that seven years after the commencement of the reconstruction of the stadium, the project is still incomplete.

There was a vision regarding the reconstruction of the stadium.

We owe it to the residents of Tshwane to do whatever is in in our power to revive the reconstruction of Caledonian Stadium,” she said.

Dr Moya revealed that the contract of the service provider in this project has been terminated and millions of rand was spent by the City of Tshwane in the unfinished Caledonian Stadium project.

Asked as to what steps would be taken against the service provider for failing to execute its duties, Moya said it would be up to the City of Tshwane Council to take whatever measures those are suitable against the service provider.

Ward 81 EFF chairperson Majuda Mauwane said we want the DA and ActionSA administration of thieves to be held accountable and be forced to rebuild the stadium because as members of the community we feel cheated by the City of Tshwane’s failure to complete the reconstruction of the stadium.

“The stadium could have created job opportunities for our youths.

Today many youths roam the streets aimlessly and indulge in wrong things as they have nothing else to do.

The stadium could have kept them busy,” he said.
