An alleged thug, who is said to be from Mozambique, was burnt to death in Stoffel Park informal settlement area, Far East of Mamelodi in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
According to anonymous residents, the alleged thug and his fellow Mozambican “tsotsis” have been terrorising the Stoffel Park residents for over two months now with criminal acts like stealing cars, robbing them of their cellphones, TVs, furniture, fridges, money and anything they considered worth stealing.
“Since October 2025 incidents of robbery have been on the rise in Stoffel Park and more than 100 families have been victims of these robberies,” said one resident.
“Members of the community have literally been sleeping with their eyes wide open in fear of these thugs who use knives and guns to rob them of their valuables,”she said.
According to the residents, the deceased “thug” was caught by the community after he and his accomplices pointed knives and guns at members of a certain family in Stoffel Park in an attempt to steal the family’s bakkie.
This was at around 2am on Tuesday.
But after their attempted robbery was foiled, the thugs ran away while firing bullets skyward, but the now-deceased “thug” was caught by members of the community who subjected him to a brutal beating before setting him on fire, resulting in his death.
The “thug’s” Identity Document indicates that his name is Joao Jonas Sitoe who was born in Chicualacuala, Mozambique in 1986.
The deceased also had on him a South African drivers licence.
