The African Unite Borders Bus Trucks Association (AUBBTA) wants to issue a stern warning to City of Joburg Mayor Dada Morero to refrain from appointing any Patriotic Alliance (PA) Councillors to the critical portfolio of MMC for Transport in the City of Joburg Municipality.
As AUBBTA we are of the opinion that such an appointment would undermine public confidence as it would interfere with ongoing corruption investigations against erstwhile MMC for Transport Kenny Kunene, who is a member of the Patriotic Alliance.
We are of the opinion that the appointment of any PA Councillor may ignite widespread unrest in Johannesburg.
AUBBTA specifically calls on Morero to exclude Councillors such as Ashley Sauls and Liam Jacobs from consideration as we have serious concerns regarding the integrity of the Patriotic Alliance due to its involvement involvement in controversial matters in the past.
The appointment of these PA leaders will undermine the work of General Mkhwanazi who is committed to eliminating political criminal syndicates and would be a betrayal to the family of the late DJ Sumbody and the whistle-blowers who have come forward with information in this matter.
We also appeal to President Cyril Ramaphosa and ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula to intervene and advise the Mayor accordingly, because political decisions made for the benefit of coalition partners risks the erosion of trust in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
AUBBTA also raises alarm over the character of former Transport MMC Kenny Kunene and calls for his immediate arrest and also for his firearms to undergo ballistic testing as part of investigations against him.
Kunene should have been detained at the crime scene, questioned and made to give a statement to the police under oath.
There are suspicions that certain crooked police officers may have interfered in the Kunene matter after he was found at Katiso Molefe’s house in Sandton by negotiating lenient treatment so that Kunene would not be arrested on the spot.
This scenario puts the lives of honest police officers at risk and also undermines investigations against Kunene.
It is a pity that suspects like Kunene are treated by some police officers as political figures rather than subjects of investigation.
If the above-mentioned concerns are not addressed, then we shall embark on a province-wide shutdown.
