A Mozambican national, Lazarus Lito Anthonio (26) from Carousel View, has provisionally abandoned his bail application at the Temba Magistrates’ Court.

This is after the District Prosecutor Sharon Nkandimeng added an additional charge of contravening a protection order.

Anthonio was already facing charges of murder, relating to the killing of his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend Kgaogelo Marota, and attempted murder of his current 20-year-old girlfriend.

It is alleged that on 12 August 2025, the Temba Magistrates’ Court granted a protection order in favour of the ex-girlfriend, prohibiting the accused from physically abusing her or entering her residence.

However, on 21 August 2025, just 10 days later, the accused allegedly went to Dubai Tavern in Maubane village, where the ex-girlfriend was with a friend, and stabbed her. He then returned to his residence, where he allegedly attempted to kill his current girlfriend. In the early hours of 22 August 2025, the police received information on the accused’s whereabouts and arrested him. The case has been postponed to 17 October 2025 for further investigations.
