ANC HOLDING SECRET MEETINGS AHEAD OF TSHWANE MAYORAL ELECTIONS

The ANC is apparently holding last minute secret meetings within its own structures and also with other parties represented in the City of Tshwane Municipal Council.

This in a concerted effort to make sure that the party’s will and wishes are implemented on Wednesday during the election of the new Mayor for the City.

An ANC Councillor who refused to be named told Tshwane Talks that even though the ANC might be talking to the DA regarding the election of the new Mayor, there is no way such talks will bear any fruit as the DA still insists on having former Mayor Cilliers Brink as the first citizen of the City, while the ANC wants to field its own candidate for the City’s mayoral chain.

The unnamed Councillor told Tshwane Talks that though he is not sure as to which candidate the ANC will be putting forward, the fact remains that Brink won’t be the said candidate and maybe ActionSA candidate Dr Moya might be the candidate, if ANC decides on a candidate from another party.

He revealed that the top leadership of the ANC in the region, as well as the leadership in the province is engaged in closed- door meetings with the National Working Committee of the party to decide who must become Mayor of the City of Tshwane.

“We will be dressed up in suits on Wednesday to vote in the new mayor,” he said.

Another source told Tshwane Talks that the FF Plus’ position hasn’t changed and that the status quo remains the same as far as the party was concerned, and that the party will vote for Brink.

He said if Brink gets defeated again, then the Freedom Front Plus would without a grudge move to the opposition benches in the City of Tshwane chambers.

He revealed that the ANC is secretly talking to other parties in the City Council of Tshwane.

He admitted that there might be a postponement of the voting process because ActionSA and the ANC are presently not in agreement regarding the mayoral candidate, this as both parties want the position of the City’s first citizen.

Tshwane Talks has it on good authority that the ANC’s secret meetings are currently being held in Pretoria/Tshwane.

For now the only known candidates for the City of Tshwane Mayoral position are Dr Nasiphi Moya of ActionSA, who served as the City’s Deputy Mayor until recently, and Cilliers Brink, who is the recently- ousted Mayor of the City of Tshwane.

Apparently the ANC in Tshwane is divided among those who are anti-GNU, who wish to see the collapse of the GNU at national level by removing Brink in Tshwane, and those who want prosperity in the country and want to maintain the letter and spirit of the GNU by retaining Brink as the City’s mayor.

In terms of the Council rules and regulations, a new mayor must be elected within 14 days after the position is declared vacant, failing which the City might be put under Provincial Administration like it happened in 2020.
