ANC Greater Tshwane Region Rec Confident of Increased Support in Ward 57 by Election
By Joel Cde Joel Masilela Ka Mahlangu
Tshwane Region ANC spokesperson
The African National Congress (ANC) in the Greater Tshwane Region (GTR), through its Regional Executive Committee (REC), expresses its satisfaction with the momentum generated and sustained by ANC activists and leaders during the Ward 57 by-election campaign.
The REC is confident that the ANC will significantly increase its electoral support in Ward 57.
While Centurion has historically not been a traditional stronghold of the ANC, the movement has, over recent months and years, recorded steady growth in support.
This growth stands in contrast to the declining support for the Democratic Alliance (DA), largely due to its failure to deliver services, failures that have also manifested across the City of Tshwane.
The ANC mounted a robust and people-centred campaign ahead of Wednesday’s byelection and remains confident in its candidate, Comrade Elias Mokoatedi. Comrade Mokoatedi is a young, vibrant leader from the ward and represents the ANC’s commitment to dismantling the apartheid spatial development framework that continues to marginalise black communities in areas such as Centurion.
Over time, the DA has failed to do justice to the residents of Ward 57. As we criss-crossed the ward during the campaign, we encountered residents from diverse backgrounds who were encouraged by the voluntary, people-driven work being undertaken by the African National Congress.
We are confident that there will be an upswing in voter turnout in favour of the African National Congress, based on the credible programme of action and solutions we are offering the residents of Ward 57.
This confidence is further informed by the evident decline of the DA, particularly in the period following its removal from governing the City of Tshwane just over a year ago.
The ANC remains committed to decisive action, meaningful service delivery, and building inclusive communities that reflect the democratic values of South Africa.
