Soweto community activist Lindokuhle Yende has called upon unemployed youths in South Africa to take Mineral and Energy Affairs Minister Gwede Mantashe at his word by submitting their CVs to the selfsame Mantashe at the ANC January 8 celebrations which will run until Sunday.

Yende’s call comes after Mantashe made a statement recently, wherein he said South African youths are lazy and want to depend on the R370 grant that is given to unemployed people in South Africa.

“The statement by Minister Mantashe that we as South African youths are lazy and not looking for jobs is very wrong, and Mantashe is an old man who doesn’t understand the predicament faced by young regarding unemployment, because we need real jobs, skills training and a plan to eradicate unemployment among the youth,” said Yende.

He said though as the youth they wish the ANC a happy anniversary, there is no way that they as the youths can celebrate if they remain unemployed.

“We are the future and not a waiting room, so I urge all youths to bring their CVs and hand them to Mantashe at the Rustenburg ANC celebrations to show that we are ready to work,” enthused Yende.

“Our generation is not a problem but a solution towards the future,” he said.

Another youth from Mamelodi who refused to be named said he would definitely support the call to present CVs to Mantashe tomorrow (Saturday) so as to make it clear to the ANC that it has neglected the unemployed youths of this country for a long time now and that instead of the ANC providing jobs, top ANC leaders like Mantashe insult the unemployed youths.

Yet another unemployed youth Sihle Nkambule from Witbank said Mantashe is arrogant and must be taught a lesson so that he would stop being arrogant regarding the plight of the unemployed young people.
