Afrikaaner lobby group AfiForum has lashed out at priority crimes police investigative unit the Hawks, regarding reports that the unit is in the process of investigating the organisation in relation to High Treason charges.

The said charges were laid against AfriForum by MK Party leader John Hlophe two months ago.

This after AfriForum members went to the United States of America and several European countries to spread the message that there is genocide against white people, particularly Afrikaaners in South Africa.

“The Hawks’ ongoing investigation into the outrageous Treason charges against AfriForum is nothing but an attempt to intimidate and silence this organisation as well as others who oppose ANC-led government’s reckless policies,” said AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel.

Kriel argues that the efforts of the Hawks aim to silence alternative voices and are characteristics of oppressive regimes that must be resisted fiercely in South Africa.

Kriel’s response follows Hawks boss Godfrey Lebeya’s announcement that the investigative unit is busy interviewing more people regarding Treason charges against certain AfriForum members.

“AfriForum will not be silenced by intimidation, but on the contrary this effort by the Hawks serves as motivation for us to continue, together with our colleagues in the Solidarity Movement, to oppose the ANC’s reckless policies and human rights violations in South Africa and this is done in the interest of the people of this country,” Kriel stressed.

He maintains that AfriForum will continue “to oppose human rights violations, including the implementation of the controversial Basic Education Laws Amendment Act( Bela), which threatens the survival of Afrikaans cultural communities, as well as calls for violence against Afrikaaners, as exemplified by slogans such as Kill the Boer.'”

“However, if local resistance does not bear fruit, the organisation is determined to fight the battle at an international level,” he said.

“Engaging with President Donald Trump’s administration or any other government is not High Treason but an exercise of a democratic right to garner international support for the protection of human rights in South Africa, in the interests of a community and its people” said Kriel.

Kallie Kriel revealed that up to now there hasn’t been any contact, interrogation or interviews by the Hawks on members of AfriForum who are alleged to have committed High Treason.

“Everything we know about High Treason investigations is limited to what we read in the media,” he said.

“We are loyal to the country and its people and that is why we have taken the matter to international platforms because we couldn’t find local solutions regarding the persecution of Afrikaaners,” enthused Kriel.

Meanwhile, AfriForum has described the departure of 49 Afrikaaners from South Africa to Texas in the United States of America as an indictment on the ANC’s race-based laws and policies, which jeopardise the lives of Afrikaaners.

Some political experts have opined that former South African citizen who is now a United States-based billionaire Elon Musk is responsible for the sudden disgruntlement of Afrikaaners after feeding President Donald Trump with lies that there is a genocide going on against Afrikaaners in South Africa.

At the moment it is not clear as to how the departed Afrikaaners will make a living in the USA or whether they will rely on charity from Donald Trump’s administration.

Be that as it may, Minister of International Relations Ronald Lamola has pointed out that the departed Afrikaaners don’t qualify as refugees anywhere in the world including the USA, because they haven’t been subjected to human rights violations or political persecution in South Africa.
