Anti-illegal migration lobby group March and March together with South Africans First Forum have sent a letter of demand to the Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber and the Department’s Director General regarding the proposed online asylum- seekers application system.

According to the letter, about 4,4 million South Africans still don’t have Identity Documents and their plight to receive the said IDs is not prioritised by the Department of Home Affairs, yet foreigners are given urgent attention to the extent of establishing an online application system for them to apply as asylum-seekers.

The letter demands that the Department of Home Affairs put a halt to the proposed online application system for asylum-seekers and that such a system should rather be implemented for local South African citizens.

“In light of the seriousness of the matter and its implications, particularly the ramifications it may have on the sovereignty and security of the Republic, we hereby demand that your office provides a written response to the above-mentioned demands within 72 hours and should we not receive the said response by 17 October 2026, then we will proceed to institute action proceedings by no later than 21 October 2026,” reads the letter at the very end.
