A trio consisting of two Sergeants, Madi and Nkhumise, and Constable Motau, was part of an awareness campaign that was held at the Pretoria City SDA Church at the corner of WF Nkomo and Kgosi Mampuru Street on the 8th August 2026.
Under the theme “Hope Beyond Addiction,” the team alongside the Department of Social Development, addressed several about 100 msomewere in attemanyocial ills such as drug consumption, abuse, trading, effects, and the state of the SAPS in fighting crimes and lawlessness.
The two sergeants made a presentation to educate the masses about the repercussions of selling drugs, sentencing, and also to sensitise them about the process of removing a criminal record.
As it is a known fact that a record could last up to 10 years, they were also enlightened on the expungement process.
This will be an ongoing process to connect with those who require assistance with appropriate rehabilitation and support services also to encourage a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The congregation were grunted an opportunity to engage and ask questions, amongst the issues raised was of the corrupt members in blue, fear of being victimised on whistleblowing, and other related issues.
SeveralSomeMany over with all the necessary details to communicate with the police and other stakeholders in order to address and eradicate drug use.
They were also urged to report anonymously and become informers of the SAPS because fighting crime is purely a joint effort by all.
With all the issues that are happening within the country, the congregants were urged to always involve the police and not to take the law in their own hands.
In terms of the legality of the consumption of dagga the law still stands no one is allowed to trade or consume dagga in public, unless it is approved and done in one’s private space.
Anyway, anyone in possession of dagga without any medical approval will face the might of the law.
