Three trucks were burnt down on the N3 highway in Vosloorus, East Rand on Wednesday.

It is reported that several armed men brazenly blocked the highway and started firing shots at oncoming trucks.

The incident happened between the R550 and R23 offramps.

The drivers of the trucks abandoned their vehicles and fled on foot.

No injuries were reported as the drivers apparently managed to escape unharmed.

Police have opened cases of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
