359 SUSPECTS ARRESTED DURING OPERATION SHANELA IN TSHWANE

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane, continued their collaborative operations with various law enforcement agencies, executed another operation Shanela in Garsfontein and Boschkop on Thursday, 11 September 2025.

The operation executed in Tshwane District is a ongoing commitment in the capital city.

It was once again planned under the command of the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, and supported by several units and SAPS members from across Tshwane District, Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, the Department of Community Safety, as well as Community Policing Forums from the areas.

With the first phase of the operation executed by the detectives, 249 suspects were arrests for various criminal offences, including 4 for murder, 9 for attempted murder, 4 for rape and 37 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

With the second phase of the operation executed by uniformed members, 65 undocumented foreign nationals were detained and handed over to immigration authorities with 2 persons arrested and fined for employing illegal immigrants and 39 passports verified for authenticity.

A total of 446 persons and 195 vehicles were searched.

Police patrolled 15 identified hotspots, with 16 liquor establishments inspected and found compliant with the liquor act.
56 630 ml of liquor was found abandoned and booked in at Boschkop SAPS for destruction.

Traffic officers played a crucial part in the operation and issued 149 Aarto infringement notices amounting to R66850 with 14 vehicles being impounded due to non-compliance with the Road Traffic Act.

Major-General Thine extended his sincere appreciation to all role-players, law enforcement partners, and community structures.
