PR Councillor Debyre Williams-Moses
Eersterust PR Councillor Debyre Williams-Moses is perturbed by recent killings that have taken place in the area.
These horrific incidents of murder entail four burnt women corpses being found in and around the Eersterust community in Tshwane.
In an exclusive interview with Tshwane Talks, Williams-Moses revealed that local residents will reactivate neighborhood watch groups to join forces with existing CPF structures in order to fight crime and ensure the safety of the Eersterust residents.
Besides the four burnt bodies, Williams-Moses pointed out that a man was arrested recently in connection with a separate incident whereby the body of a dead young female was discovered in the area last week.
She lamented the fact that illegal foreigners might also be a contributing factor to the crime that is reigning in Eersterust as they can’t be arrested even if they happen to have committed crimes because they are undocumented and can’t be linked to crimes via DNA.
Though there is fear that a serial killer may be on the loose in Eersterust, Williams-Moses said the following:
“At this point in time we are not sure, so I don’t want to speculate.”
She admitted that residents of Eersterust are not feeling safe now and that they want the police to do their investigations regarding the murder incidents.
“I have already sent several requests to the City of Tshwane regarding the fixing of street lights which have not been working for the last two years now and another issue which needs urgent attention by the City of Tshwane in Eersterust is the cutting off of tall grasses, reeds and shrubs at various sections of Eersterust as these make it easy for perpetrators of crime to conceal themselves therein and lie in wait for their victims,” said Williams-Moses.
Williams-Moses represents the Patriotic Alliance in the City of Tshwane Municipality chambers.
“We have school children going to bus stops in the early hours of the morning when it is dark, as well as young and old women who have to venture out of their houses at such a time to carry out their routines, so we need police visibility in the early hours of the morning as well as in the evenings,” she said.
Williams-Moses also appealed to social media users to refrain from spreading fake news about the situation in Eersterust as this has aggravated the community’s fears; creating mass panic, restlessness and anxiety.
