Some parts of Centurion and Pretoria East experienced power supply interruption following the explosion of a 1A Transformer at the Zwartkop Substation, in the early hours of today,
Tuesday, 20 May 2025.
The explosion tripped the Lyttelton Line 1 at Njala, affecting Wingate, Aries and De Hoewes substations.
The City’s Emergency Services Department was dispatched to the scene and swiftly extinguished the blaze.
A team of technicians from Energy and Electricity Department was also dispatched to the scene, and has so far managed to expeditiously energise Wingate, Aries and De Hoewes
substations.
The team is currently assessing the extent of the damage at 1A Zwartkop Substation explosion site as part of the preparations to effect repairs.
The substation will remain off until
the repair work has been completed.
Our technicians will be working tirelessly to ensure that power supply is restored to the affected areas.
The estimated time for restoration will be communicated once the bulk of the
repair work has been completed.
The city apologises to the affected residents for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen occurrence.
