360 SUSPECTS ARRESTED DURING CRIME COMBATING OPERATION IN CULLINAN AND EKANGALA

On Thursday, 31 July 2025, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane intensified its ongoing efforts to combat crime through the continued implementation of Operation Shanela.

The latest high-impact operation focused on the rural communities of Ekangala and Cullinan policing precincts, with the support of multiple Operational and Proactive law enforcement role players.

The operation, headed by Tshwane District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine, resulted in the arrest of 360 suspects for a range of criminal offences.

Additional SAPS personnel from across the Tshwane District were deployed to enhance policing efforts.

Key activities included continued liquor compliance inspections, the tracing of wanted suspects, and heightened patrols in identified crime hotspots.

District detectives once again made significant progress in their tracing operations, resulting in the arrest of 318 wanted suspects, including 7 for murder, 3 for attempted murder, 4 for armed robbery and 10 for rape.

A roadblock was assembled in Ekangala, with tactical teams deployed in both precincts to increase police visibility. This operation led to the detention of 30 illegal immigrants, who are currently being processed for court proceedings and possible deportation with 2 persons being fined for employing illegal immigrants.

During the course of the operation 1265 individuals and 509 vehicles were searched with 35 vehicles were tested to verify ownership.

Patrols were conducted in 20 high-crime areas and premises with 2 secondhand dealers being inspected and fined for contravention of the secondhand goods act.

Traffic officers provided valuable support by issuing 102 AARTO infringement notices amounting to R39 000 for various traffic-related offences.

As part of liquor law enforcement, 10 liquor outlets were inspected with 5 outlets that were shut down for non-compliance with the Liquor Act.

A total of 81 810 ml of alcohol with 3 speakers and a fridge was confiscated.

Furthermore, 2 second-hand goods dealers were inspected and found to be in compliance with the Second-Hand Goods Act.
